Background to the Scenic Rim region
The Scenic Rim region is home to internationally-recognised rainforests, prosperous and vibrant rural villages, productive farmlands and important river systems. As a result, many people, businesses and communities in the region are interested and active in the field of sustainability by ensuring that the region protects and enhances its environmental, social, economic and cultural assets.
Growing numbers of local businesses in the Scenic Rim Region are becoming more aware and involved in sustainability because they recognise the future of this and many other regions will be built on resilient, long-lasting, adaptable and innovative local economies. And for many businesses, their customers are already asking for ethical, green products and services.
How the directory can help
Do you want to buy from a business that is operating sustainably but don’t know how to find them?
Sustainable Scenic Rim is a directory of small to medium-sized locally and Australian-owned businesses and enterprises in the Scenic Rim Region that are committed to becoming sustainable. Many are already well on their way.
Sustainability includes “eco-friendly or green products” but is so much more as well and Sustainable Scenic Rim includes businesses across many industries - from organic farmers to property developers, cleaners to holiday accommodation, tour operators to education centres. This is a new website and over time, will be linked to similar directories in neighbouring areas of South East Queensland such as Logan and Gold Coast City.
This website is being developed as part of the Building Sustainable Small Business program and is supported by the Scenic Rim Regional Council.
Why have a sustainable business directory?
We are all becoming aware of the need for major changes to the way our community and broader society live and operate but it can be difficult to know what we can do to make a difference beyond our own homes and personal activities.
This directory allows you to find and support local businesses and enterprises who are involved in the sustainability journey…some may have only just started the journey while others have already achieved a lot, but they all need our custom and support for their great services and products.
By buying local and sustainable goods and services we can all help build a prosperous and sustainable region and local economy.
