National Green Jobs Corps is the Australian Government’s environmentally focused work experience and accredited training program for 17 – 24 year olds. It provides a supervised group of up to 10 young people for a 26 week program of work experience and study. The young people will spend three days per week working on environmental projects for Beechmont Landcare. Job Futures SEQ is coordinating the traineeship.
Beechmont Landcare volunteers currently manage a number of sites in various Reserves at Beechmont. Under the guidance of Beechmont Landcare, the National Green Jobs Corps project will be working in these Reserves. Various activities will take place including weed control, seed collection, plant propagation, tree planting, track construction and maintenance.
The Reserves where activities will take place are Denham Scenic Reserve, Akoonah/Timbarra Reserve, Windabout Road Reserve, Graceleigh Park and Nell Scott Park.
The project was officially launched on Wednesday 20 July 2011 at a morning tea attended by Cr Virginia West, environmental team members from SRRC, Job Futures SEQ Team and Beechmont Landcare members.
