Birdweek is coming again in spring to Mt Barney Lodge between 7 and 11 September 2011 and will follow the successful format of the last two years.

There will be morning and afternoon guided walks with Barry Davies of Gondwana Guides As well as being a long standing resident of the Scenic Rim, Barry was also awarded the Ecotourism Australia’s “EcoGuide of the Year” award in 2009.

Educational workshops will extend everyone’s birding knowledge andinclude two hands-on photography workshops by renowned wildlife photographer Michael Snedic

A wetlands field trip will identify a range of local birds not found immediately on the Mt Barney Lodge property.

And the community art and ecology project “The Rim” ( will facilitate the creation of a community painting focusing on the region’s birds for its 2012 community art exhibition with artists Dave Groom, John Jackson and poet Sally MacKinnon.

Mt Barney Lodge Director Tracey Larkin said, “Birdweek is held during National Threatened Species Week and is the ideal time to reflect on and appreciate bird biodiversity.

“The Mt Barney Lodge region contains the endangered Eastern Bristlebird as well as the Glossy Black Cockatoo and Grey Crowned Babbler which are not on the official threatened species list but are certainly marginal.

“The Birdweek program is suitable for amateur or intermediate birders and is a great way to extend your birding knowledge to add interest and interpretation during bushwalking, photography and being outdoors in general,” Tracey said.

The Birdweek program can be viewed at .
