The 2011 Queensland Landcare Conference is being held in Ayr, North Queensland between September 20-23. The conference will focus on the generations of guardians responsible for land and culture stewardship across the state.
Graham Anderson, Chair Lower Burdekin Landcare Association who will host the 22nd annual event said the theme reflects a number of issues.
“Firstly, we acknowledge the role Traditional Owners have played as environmental stewards over thousands of years in Australia. Secondly, there are many people who have been involved in landcare since its inception in the 1980s and they have a lot of knowledge and passion to share. But most importantly, there is a whole new generation of landcarers – young people, students, Gen Y – who are showing a new level of interest in the environment and sustainability. We want to foster this generation of guardians and make sure they have the resources and support they need to make a difference for the future.”
