A regional food network was formed at Canungra in July 2011 as part of the Scenic Rim region’s first Eat Local Week. Called Scenic Rim Food, the network is bringing together regional growers, producers, retailers and consumers.

Scenic Rim Food aims to:

  • Develop a local food system to facilitate trade of locally grown and produced food and beverages to meet the needs of farmers/producers and the demand of  retailers, consumers, supply chains
  • Establish a data base of growers and producers which provides information on who grows what, where, when and how much of it, as a priority
  • Establish a data base of food retailers which provides information on who sells what, where, when and how much of it is required
  • Recruit interested participants to establish a local Grower/Producer Group in the eastern part of the Scenic Rim area
  • Liaise with Scenic Rim Regional Council to help implement the regional food strategy
  • Establish a regional (eastern areas) network of authentic accredited local growers, producers and distribution hubs/food outlets
  • Provide the resources to educate, research, share and develop opportunities to further the cause
  • Develop a local food brand and marketing strategy in partnership with Council

During August and September Scenic Rim Food will establish a webpage on the Sustainable Scenic Rim website that includes the first stage of a regional food directory and a village square food blog. It will also host a collective stall at the Canungra Show and gather information for a retailer’s directory.
