The Story
Have you ever stopped to think where the food you buy every day comes from? Who produced it and how? How it was transported to the place where you bought it? How many hands were involved in getting your food from the farm gate to your plate?
As South East Queensland continues to grow, consideration is being given to where our food comes from now and where it will come from into the future. While the Scenic Rim region has rich resources and the ability to produce food, how much of that food produced in our local area makes it to local tables?
The Research
Scenic Rim Regional Council is thinking beyond today and considering how it might support innovation and diversification in the food production area. To help achieve this goal, Southern Cross University has been commissioned to undertake research that will help understand the regular food buying habits of the local community, the food service sector and food retailers as well as what farmers are producing now and potentially could produce into the future. Needless to say that Scenic Rim is looking to improve the way local food is used/accessed in the local area.
The information when collated will inform the development of a local food strategy that will support the production, distribution and sale of local food for local consumption and therefore help support our local farmers, provide healthy, fresh, seasonal, regional food to our local community and create authentic local tourism experiences that will have visitors raving about the amazing food offering experienced in Scenic Rim. To do this we need your help.
