A sustainability blog written especially for teenagers living in South East Queensland has been launched this month by local sustainability and environmental writer, educator and activist Sally MacKinnon.

Called “Messages of Kindness” the blog is available for young people as well as parents and teachers.

The messages are a series of 16 letters written to teenagers about the global environmental crisis and how young people can help to create a more meaningful, sustainable future for themselves, their families and their communities.

The project began in mid-2010 when Sally wrote a series of letters to her teenage son Huon explaining her thoughts about the environmental crisis and how a more creative, sustainable and kinder world might be crafted.

The Green Door Foundation, a Beechmont philanthropic organisation supporting regional environmental and sustainability initiatives, funded the development of the blog in early 2011 and the first messages are now online.

Thanks to the Green Door grant, the project has evolved into a blog where teenagers can read the Messages of Kindness, connect to inspiring music, poetry and activist organisations, as well as add their own messages of hope, creativity, concern and innovation in online conversations.

The “Messages of Kindness” blog is at: http://messagesofkindness.wordpress.com/

Please tell the young people in your lives about Messages of Kindness!
