On Saturday August 20, Tamborine Mountain Transition Town Network launched its community “Sustainability Action Plan for Tamborine Mountain” at the premiere screening of “The Economics of Happiness” at the Zamia Theatre.

This community-created plan, a first for the Scenic Rim region, outlines a range of projects to strengthen the community’s local economy, community bonds and community resilience while reducing its dependence on and emissions from fossil fuels. It includes chapters on Food, Water, Energy, Health, Housing, Waste Management, Transport, Education and Re-skilling, Communication, Business, Finance and Local Economy, and Manufacturing and Repair.

The Tamborine Mountain Sustainability Group belongs to the world-wide Transition Network. There are now hundreds of Transition communities around the world, each seeking to inspire, catalyse and support community responses to the challenges of diminishing fossil fuel supplies and climate change. It is positive and solutions-focused and is developing a diversity of tools for building community resilience and happiness around the world.
