Award-winning documentary the “Economics of Happiness” was screened recently at Beaudesert and Boonah to enthralled audiences of local businesses, community representatives and residents.
Filmmaker and founder of the International Society for Ecology and Culture, Helena Norberg-Hodge attended the Beaudesert screening and discussed her decades of work to relocalise regional communities around the world.
The “Economics of Happiness” recently won the Best in Show award at the Cinema Verde Film and Arts Festival and has had an amazing 'viral' growth around the world.
The Scenic Rim was extremely fortunate to be one of the first regions in Australia to host the film and its director thanks to the support of Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Economic Development Department. Community partners who helped collaboratively host the screenings included the Boonah Organisation for a Sustainable Shire (BOSS), the Ethos Foundation, the Boonah Chamber of Commerce and the Kalbar Regional Organisation for Promotion (KROP).
This initiative is part of Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Local Living Economy program.
"While some American reviewers have predicted an Oscar for Best Documentary, others have said that this film will do for localisation/globalisation schism what An Inconvenient Truth did for our understanding of climate change." Roger Hanney, writer for The Alternative Media Group of Australia
"A must-see film for the future of the planet." Zac Goldsmith, Member of UK Parliament
