Beechmont’s homegrown Zest Fest - a celebration of local food, health and creativity – is happening on Sunday June 26 at the new community hall at Graceleigh Park.
Zest springs to life from 10am June 26 with market stalls, cooking demonstrations, food tastings, sampler yoga classes, massage treatments, music, craft displays, workshops and Zest sample bags all designed to showcase the wonders of Beechmont’s creative community.
Organised by the Beechmont Business & Enterprise Network (BBEN), Zest is for locals and visitors alike.
BBEN representative Sally MacKinnon said “Beechmont is home to an amazing array of very talented musicians, crafters, foodies, gardeners and health and wellbeing practitioners.
“In our community we have nationally renowned musicians and health practitioners. We are also home to emerging crafters and boutique food enterprises.
“It’s time to let everyone know about the beautiful businesses and emerging enterprises that operate on Beechmont and celebrate their skills, services and goods.
“BBEN’s mission is to promote and connect local businesses and showcase our local economy and Zest Fest is the perfect way to do this – through a mid-winter celebration when local citrus is in abundance.
“This year, the colours and flavours of citrus will be woven throughout Zest Fest and everyone involved will include something citrusey in their market stalls, samples, demonstration classes and workshops.
“Zest is the first event to be held at Beechmont’s new community hall.
“To celebrate this auspicious occasion, in collaboration with the two local crafters groups, we are creating a large handmade wall quilt for the hall.
“People are invited to sew or craft a 6 ½ inch or 16.5cm square block or appliqué on calico with the theme of Beechmont. Then bring their square to Zest and donate it to the quilters who will create the wall quilt over the following weeks,” Sally said.
Locals and visitors are invited to Zest Fest on Sunday June 26 between 10am and 3pm at the Hall on Graceleigh, 1922 Beechmont Rd, Beechmont. Entry is $10 per adult and children are free. Free activities will be running all day.
Zest Fest is at the heart of Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Regional Food Week between June 24 and 30 and Council is a key supporter for Zest Fest 2011. Visit www.beechmont.org.au/zest-fest
